The Witcher 3 Remastered is 2026's top-rated game — and it's free if you own Wild Hunt
CD Projekt Red's remaster launched September 29 on every current platform, with a new Reforge transmog system, a revamped skill tree and dozens of quality-of-life fixes.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered launched on September 29, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. Within hours it climbed to the top of Metacritic's 2026 rankings with a Metascore of 94, ahead of the original 2015 release, which sits at 92.
Existing owners don't have to pay again: the remaster arrives as a free update for anyone who already has the game, and it is also sold as a standalone purchase. Saves and achievements carry over from the original.
What's new
CD Projekt Red has bundled roughly 30 improvements into the release. The headline changes are sharper visuals, reworked combat and traversal, a revamped skill tree and Reforge — a transmog system that lets you keep the stats of your best armour while wearing the look you prefer. Both expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, are included.
Platform extras are worth noting too: on Switch 2 you can use the touchscreen for dialogue, inventory and Gwent, while the Xbox version supports Play Anywhere, so it unlocks the PC version at no extra cost.
Why it matters
A decade after release, Geralt's last big adventure is once again the best-reviewed game of the year — and the cheapest way in for millions of players is simply hitting 'update'.
